The 47 Annual Convention of the Department of Arizona was held on June 8th,
9th and 10th. Site was the Renaissance Glendale Hotel and Spa. It was hosted
by the White Tank Mountain Detachment. It was an outstanding affair.
Attending from Sedona were Commandant Ray Ojeda, SVC Bill Chisholm,
Lloyd Dellacort and Erika Dellacort. Sedona was awarded a Meritorious
Unit Commendation (Department Level). All who were members of Sedona
Detachment from June 2017 to June 2018 have authorization to wear the
Department Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon. This was awarded for
the Detachment’s continued support of Marines Helping Marines and Az
Marines Assisting Marines. Since 2008, the Detachment has donated over
$103,000 to these charities.

Elected were Commandant-Ray Ojeda Jr. Senior Vice Commandant Bill Chisholm, Junior Vice Commandant-Gordon Garvey, Judge Advocate-Leonard Barrow.

Marine Ray Stueve was awarded the Distinguished Citizen Silver medal for his really tireless efforts concerning the 89a flag project.

The 11th annual golf event will be held on September 8th at the OakCreek CC.

The 10th annual Sedona Detachment Golf Event was held at OakCreek CC on September 9th. It was very successful with 88 players, raffle, lunch and lively auction led by Robert B. Goode. Over $9,000 was raised to be used for Veteran’s projects. The event was organized by Lloyd Dellacort, Robert B. Goode, Dick French and Ray Ojeda. Event day helpers were Len Barrow, Ray Stueve, Theresa Corbett, Erika Dellacort and Ron Clark. The next event will be on September 8th, 2018.

The Department of Arizona Spring Conference was held in Yuma on March 23rd and 24th. Attending were Ray Ojeda, Gordie Garvey, Lloyd Dellacort and Erika Dellacort. Changing Corporation to 501-C4 was deemed vital for all Detachments and Pounds.

The Department of Arizona staff conference was held in Peoria on October 21st. Attending were Senior Vice Commandant Ray Ojeda, Paymaster-Adjutant Ron Clark and Lloyd Dellacort. The Detachment donated $4,000 to Arizona Marines Assisting Marines and $1,000 to Marines Helping Marines. Ray Ojeda presented the checks to Lloyd Dellacort, Chairman of the two Charities. Ray then presented $1500 to Commandant Pat Connell to benefit veteran Hurricane Relief in Texas.

A donation of $500 was given to Evan Holz, Chairman of ASU Curt Shilling Fund. A donation of $625 was given to the Verde Valley Service Park in Cottonwood.

Ray Stueve has long worked to get a flag project done in Sedona. Ray has been awarded the Distinguished Citizen Silver from the Department of Arizona Commandant Pat Connell. It was presented to him on April 12th by Department Officer Lloyd Dellacort. Very well deserved.
